Nephew Named As Person Of Interest In Bronx Woman's Disappearance

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 69-year-old woman has been missing from her apartment and now her nephew is a person of interest in the investigation.

As CBS2's Ali Bauman reported, Patricia Myers was last seen at her Bronx building.

Neighbors said she has been living in the apartment for decades, but everything changed when her nephew came to stay there last week.

"She goes to the store, comes back and that's it, but since the nephew came I dunno what happened," a neighbor said.

It's been a week since Myers was last seen at the 1295 Grand Concourse building. On Wednesday the crime scene unit was there and authorities said they have reason to believe it's more than just a missing persons case.

A cadaver dog has been brought in and neighbors said they saw strange interactions between Myers and her nephew days before she went missing.

"He was supposed to come with his mother. He was knocking at the door for a half hour. She came to the door, said 'hold it," neighbor George Byers recalled, "She finally came to the door. She said, 'where's your mother?' He said, 'oh she didn't come, she told me to come."

Police said the family has expressed concern about Myers' nephew. They said he's 42, is on parole for burglary, and has 11 prior arrests.

"I saw him the next day, which is Wednesday. He said 'my aunt is in the hospital.' I saw her at the door the other day and I haven't seen him since," Byers said.

Myers used an oxygen mask and police said she suffered from COPD, but despite this neighbors remember her stark independence.

"She doesn't want you to help her. She doesn't want you to hold the door for her or nothing," Byers said.

Police have not released the nephew's name, but said they have not located him. CBS2 reached out to Myers' sister, but she did not want to talk.
