Brandon Marshall: Jets Will 'Be OK' If Ryan Fitzpatrick Doesn't Come Back

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall believes the team will be fine if Ryan Fitzpatrick doesn't come back.

Marshall told the New York Post he has confidence in quarterbacks Bryce Petty and Geno Smith.

"Just seeing Bryce and Geno grow so much the last year is really encouraging, and I'm just proud of those guys," Marshall told the Post. "We'll be OK."

Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan has repeatedly said he wants to re-sign Fitzpatrick and that Fitzpatrick has said he would like to return to the Jets, but the two sides have been locked in a stalemate in contract talks. The Jets have reportedly offered Fitzpatrick a deal for $7 million to $8 million annually, while Fitzpatrick is looking for significantly more.

The free agent quarterback has told people he would "rather not play football than play for the Jets at their contract offer," ESPN's Adam Schefter reported last month.

"It's just a business and every deal is different," Marshall told the Post. "Some deals get done in three minutes or five minutes, while some take longer, and this is one of them. So I'm confident they'll get it done. Ryan is a great teammate and a great leader."

The Jets selected former Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg in the second round in last month's NFL Draft.

"I haven't been around Hackenberg much, but he seems like a pro," Marshall told the Post.

Last season, Fitzparick led the Jets to a 10-6 record, passing for 3,905 and a team-record 31 touchdowns.
