16-Foot, 3,456-Pound Great White Shark Surfaces Near East Hampton

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Just when you thought it was safe to get back in the water.

Great White shark Mary Lee was recorded swimming toward East Hampton beach yesterday.

Her tracking device shows her swimming pretty much straight toward the popular beach.

Mary Lee was fitted with a tracking device off Cape Cod in 2012. She's at least 16 feet long and weighed 3,456 pounds when she was tagged.

The device, which is attached to her dorsal fin, transmits a "ping" whenever the dorsal fin breaks the surface of the water.

OCEARCH, the research group tracking Mary Lee, said she had traveled more than 19 miles in the past 24 hours.
