This Is Spring? Chilly May Weather Has Tri-State Residents Bundling Up

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - What happened to spring?

Tri-State residents bundled up Monday morning, greeted by temperatures that started in the 30s that were driven even lower by wind chills.

Despite all the sunshine, there wasn't much warmth to be found.

Around noon in Columbus Circle, the temperature was around 55 degrees. That's the normal temperature for early November, CBS2's Elise Finch reported. New Yorkers she spoke with told her that's exactly what it felt like.

"I feel like it's so, so cold right now," one man said.

"It's windy. It doesn't feel like spring," one woman said.

After the morning chill, temperatures were slow to warm up, causing some people to wear their warmest gear, including winter coats, hats, and scarves.

"You definitely need a hoodie, and something like a vest, something like that," said Upper West Sider Lea Juric. "It's not going to feel like mid-May, that's for sure."

"Looks warm, but then you get the cold breeze, and it's anything but," one man said.

Sustained westerly winds were about 20 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 35 miles per hour, Finch reported.

"I think it reminds them of probably winter, and we want winter to be over," Harlem resident Woolridge said. "So I think that's why people are a little frustrated."

"We expect sun and warmer weather by now," one woman said.

Don't despair, though. Temperatures are expected to hit the 70s later this week.
