Reports: No Structural Damage To Matz's Elbow
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Doctors found no structural damage in Mets left-hander Steven Matz's throwing elbow Monday, according to multiple reports.
Matz missed his scheduled start Saturday in Colorado with a sore elbow. He had a doctor's visit at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan on Monday.
The Mets are not expected to release any information on Matz's status until Tuesday, Newsday reported. It was not clear Monday if Matz will pitch in this week's series against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field.
The Mets will send Noah Syndergaard to the mound Tuesday to face Max Scherzer, but New York's starters for the final two games of the series hinge on Matz's availability. Washington will pitch Gio Gonzalez and Stephen Strasburg on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
Matz is 5-1 this season with a 2.86 ERA. He has struck out 35 batters and walked just eight. The 24-year-old is the first Mets pitcher in history to win nine of his first 10 career decisions.
