Frank Isola On WFAN: Knicks Keeping Kurt Rambis As An 'Offensive Guru' Would Be A Bad Move

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Kurt Rambis isn't popular with Knicks fans, and, according to the New York Daily News' Frank Isola, he might not be popular with other Knicks coaching candidates, either.

In an interview with WFAN's Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts on Tuesday, Isola referenced reports stating that if Rambis isn't promoted from interim coach to full-time head coach, he could remain on the staff as an "offensive guru" to help coach Phil Jackson's triangle offense.

"That's why they hired Kurt in the first place, to be offensive guru for Derek Fisher," Isola said. "It didn't really work out, and it kind of seems like Kurt Rambis played a bit of a role in Derek Fisher getting fired. So if you're Frank Vogel, David Blatt or Jeff Hornacek, 'I have to inherit Kurt Rambis? I mean, he didn't have Derek Fisher's back. Why the heck would he have my back?' That whole thing seems like a bad arrangement. If you're going to bring in a coach, you've got to let him hire his staff because it never works.

"Phil actually stood there and said ... he (Fisher) wasn't listening to his assistants. Where the heck is it written that you have to listen to your assistant coaches?" Isola added. "The losses go on your record, not theirs."
