NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An off-duty police detective came to the rescue of an elderly Brooklyn woman on Monday, and took down an alleged purse snatcher.
Detective Ralph Gaglioti was standing outside a barbershop at 2327 McDonald Ave. in Gravesend, Brooklyn Monday morning, waiting to get a haircut.
He said he heard screams and saw the female suspect escaping. He ran after her.
"I noticed people behind her chasing her, and I heard the screams of: 'Stop her! She just grabbed my bag!'" Gaglioti told CBS2 exclusively. "I jumped on her and I grabbed her, and identified myself as a police officer, and I held her down."
The suspect, a 27-year-old woman, was taken into custody. Police said she has more than a dozen prior arrests.
