Gov. Christie Facing Decision On Port Authority Reform Bill
TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Republican Gov. Chris Christie must make a decision on legislation that overhauls the powerful Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Christie must decide Monday whether to sign, veto or offer changes to the measure. It's aimed at making the agency that controls the regions airports, bridges and tunnels more transparent.
If Christie takes no action, the bill becomes law.
It would come as a surprise if Christie approves the legislation. He has already said he backs a measure enacted last year in New York that mirrors a bill sponsored by state Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean Jr.
But the Democrat-led Legislature is hopeful New York will consider their version before Christie.
The biggest difference is the Democratic version calls for legislative oversight of the agency.
