Construction Worker Fighting For His Life After Being Shot On Job In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A young construction worker is fighting for his life after being shot on the job in Brooklyn on Monday.

CBS2's Esha Ray reported surveillance video from the crime scene in East New York shows a fight breaking out between two men on Belmont Avenue as one pulled out a gun and fires several shots. The suspect then runs away while 21-year-old Amandeep Singh is lying on the ground.

Singh is still bleeding from his injuries at Brookdale Hospital. His family said doctors found four gunshot wounds around his body.

"He was an innocent guy, he was a really hardworking guy," uncle Ranjit Singh said. "He was young. I don't know what to say now. I'm just waiting hopefully. Everybody prays for him."

Amandeep Singh was on a construction job with his uncle's company, NYC Crystal Builders, when he was shot. Police said the suspect, a man in his late 30s, grabbed a 22-carat gold necklace from around Singh's neck before driving off with another man in a green Chrysler Pacifica.

Ranjit Singh said he's never seen anything like this in the two years that the company has been in business.

"From now on, no gold chains, no gold anything you should be wearing at your job site," he said. "It's really dangerous, especially in that kind of neighborhood."

Police are still on the hunt for the suspect responsible.
