Six Flags Great Adventure Debuts New 'The Joker' 4D Roller Coaster

JACKSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Thrill-seekers, get ready -- there's a new roller coaster in town this summer.

Six Flags Great Adventure unveiled its new Batman-themed "The Joker" roller coaster on Thursday, complete with twists, turns and a new free-fly design -- giving thrill-seekers a full body experience while traveling in mid-air.

Other features include a 120-foot-tall, 90 degree hill and other flips, turns and drops that give riders the experience of free-falling as they glide without a track beneath them.

"Once you get to the top you're going to immediately flip over," Six Flags spokesperson Kristin Siebeneicher told 1010 WINS. "Then the ride is bumping, and twisting, and you're soaring doing these midair maneuvers...until you get to the bottom."

Siebeneicher said each experience is different for every rider.

"Each ride varies depending on your weight and your weight distribution," she explained. "There are four seats in a car and there are two seats facing each other at a time and each seat is actually spinning independently. So you can be sitting next to somebody who is flipping differently than you are. It's very amazing."

Six Flags Season Pass holders will have a chance to try the new ride early on Friday evening, with the coaster opening to the general public on Saturday.

The Joker, the park's 14th thrill ride, is one of several comic book-themed coasters to come to Six Flags, joining "Green Lantern," "Batman: The Ride," "Superman: Ultimate Flight" and the "Dark Knight" coaster. "The Joker," inspired by Batman's biggest nemesis, also joins Six Flags' "Harley Quinn's Crazy Train," named after the Joker's female sidekick.

In 2015, Six Flags debuted the "El Diablo" a mid-sized roller coaster inspired by the Jersey Devil.
