Yankees' Ackley Out For Season With Shoulder Injury

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Yankees' Dustin Ackley will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, manager Joe Girardi said Tuesday.

Ackley suffered a torn right labrum on a slide Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

While Ackley was batting just .148 with no home runs, his loss is another blow to the Yankees' depth at first base.

Mark Teixeira has been battling a neck issue, although he was back in the lineup Monday. And Greg Bird also underwent season-ending surgery on a torn labrum before the season began.

Ackley, whom the Yankees acquired in a trade last season with the Seattle Mariners, had also started games in right field and at designated hitter this season.
