The Weather Is Heating Up And So Is The Competition For The 'Song Of The Summer'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- With the nice weather upon us everyone is looking for a catchy 'song of the summer' to play over and over again.

Last year brought us tunes like OMI's 'Cheerleader,' Taylor Swift's 'Bad Blood,' and 'Walk The Moon's Shut Up And Dance.'

As CBS2's Jill Nicolini reported, no one can forget DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince's song 'Summertime' from 1991, and 2012's summer hit Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepson.

"It's all about making you feel good. That's what a summer song is supposed to do," Cane Peterson of Fresh 102.7's Carson and Cane, said.

Carson and Cane both agreed that Justin Timberlake has the top summer song of 2016.

"The video with James Corden, the cast from Trolls -- because it's from the movie trolls. You have James Corden, Gwen Stefani, Anna Kendrick is in it," Karen Carson said.

"It's unmistakable how hooky it is, how summer it feels, you smile when you hear it," Cane said.

But that's not the only contender.

"The number two choice is Pink 'Just like Fire' it's been three years since we heard from Pink. This is for the movie Alice Through The Looking Glass," Carson said.

Cane disagrees.

"I think it's going to be One Republic 'Wherever I go' it's an uptempo pop, hooky song," he said.

"Our number three choice would be Lucas Graham 'Seven Years' it talks about his dad passing away at 60 but you could just hear the emotion in his voice. Everybody knows it everybody loves," Carson said.

But what do people on the street think?

"Can't stop the feeling. It's just the rhythm. It has everyone going, it's a great song," Dylan Brush said.

"Absolutely JT's new hit," Sue Vorcheimar said.

Carson and Cane both agreed that Pharell Williams 2013 song 'Happy' still remains the number one top summer song of all time.

The song of the summer could even be something we haven't heard yet, especially since Maroon 5 has a new tune coming out later this month.
