Suspect Charged In Shooting That Killed Man In Park In Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A suspect was charged Friday with shooting and killing a man in a Yonkers park.

Around 8:40 p.m. this past Tuesday, police were called to Doyle Park and found Joseph Huguet, 29, of the Bronx with several gunshot wounds to his torso, police said. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital, Yonkers police said.

Following an investigation, a suspect, identified as Robert Daniels of Yonkers, was arrested on Friday afternoon and charged with second-degree murder, police said.

Investigators believe the suspect and the victim were in the park and the suspect fired multiple rounds that struck the victim, police said. The suspect ran off before officers arrived, police said.

"Crimes like this will not be tolerated by the men and women of the Yonkers Police Department," Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano said in a news release. "I commend our Detectives for their quick action in making this arrest. My office is working closely with the YPD to make sure crimes occurring in specific areas are addressed to improve the quality of life for our residents."
