Police: Officer Shoots Man Outside Dallas Airport

DALLAS (CBSNewYork/AP) --  Police say an officer shot a man Friday outside the Dallas airport while responding to a domestic disturbance.

Assistant Dallas Police Chief Randall Blankenbaker said a man was using rocks to attack a woman in a car at Dallas Love Field on Friday afternoon when an officer responded to the incident.

Blankenbaker said the man rushed the officer. He said the cop was able to get away before he was rushed again by the man. The officer then fired his weapon at the man several times, Blankenbaker said.

One witness said the man was yelling at police, telling them to shoot him, CBS2's Alice Gainer reported.

Police said the man is believed to be the father of the woman's children, CBS News reported.

An Instagram video of the incident shows people scattering outside a baggage claim door as an officer in a neon yellow vest trains a gun toward a baggage claim entrance. At least eight gunshots can be heard as a man's voice repeatedly yells "stand down!'' A woman can be heard screaming.

The man, identified as Shawn Diamond of Maryland, was taken to a hospital. He was not critically wounded.

Some airport operations were temporarily disrupted, but the airport remained open.

Southwest Airlines released a statement Friday saying that all of their employees and customers are safe following the incident and that the airline.
