Yankees Place Chris Parmelee On 15-Day DL With Hamstring Injury

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Yankees first baseman Chris Parmelee, who made a sudden impact in the lineup this week, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a right hamstring strain, the team announced.

In his first start as a Yankee on Wednesday, Parmelee hit two homers in a 12-6 win over the Los Angeles Angels. He was 1-for-3 with an RBI on Thursday when he injured himself stretching for a throw at first base.

In just eight at-bats, Parmelee, 28, was hitting .500 with two homers and four RBIs.

The injury is the latest setback for the Yankees at first base. Starting first baseman Mark Teixeira is on the DL with a knee injury. Dustin Ackley, who was filling in at first base, is out for the season with a torn right labrum. And Greg Bird underwent season-ending surgery on a torn labrum before the season began.

Manager Joe Girardi said Friday that Rob Refsnyder will be the team's everyday first baseman for now.

The Yankees recalled right-hander Chad Green from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Green, 25, saw his first big league action on May 16 when he started against Arizona. He allowed four earned runs and eight hits over four innings.
