Police: Medford Home Condemned, 2 Arrested After Drug Bust

MEDFORD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Two people were arrested after police found cocaine, heroin, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a loaded .380 caliber handgun during a raid of a Long Island home Wednesday morning.

Pshawn Smith, 42, and Leslie Harris, 24, were taken into custody after Suffolk County police executed a raid of their Medford home at around 6 a.m. According to police, there were four people inside the home at the time of the search.

Smith faces charges of 3rd -degree criminal possession of a weapon, and several drug-related charges. Harris was charged with 3rd-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The Wilson Ave. house has since been condemned by the Brookhaven Town Building Department.

According to Suffolk County Police Chief Tim Sini, a new hotline established by the county has proved successful in alerting authorities on potential drug houses -- like the one raided on Wednesday -- in residential areas, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.

"To date, 607 tips. 191 arrests. 41 handguns seized. We've seized kilogram quantities of narcotics, including almost 2 kilograms of heroin, over a kilogram of crack cocaine, almost 4 kilograms of power cocaine, loads of other drugs including over $1 million dollars in drug money," Sini said.

Suffolk County's new dedicated 24-hour drug hotline was established earlier this year and allows residents to report suspected drug activity in their neighborhoods.

"It also gives community members a sense that the police department and the town and the community are working together and addressing their concerns," Sini said.

Sini said police have increased efforts to secure search warrants to help take suspected drug dealers off the streets before incidents escalate.

The hotline number is 631-852-NARC (6272).
