Singer Meat Loaf Collapses During Concert In Canada

EDMONTON, Alberta (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A spokesman for rock singer Meat Loaf say he is in stable condition after being rushed to the hospital during a concert in Edmonton, Alberta.

The Grammy-winning singer and actor collapsed on stage at Edmonton's Jubilee Auditorium as he belted out his famous anthem, "I Would Do Anything For Love."

A video of the performance showed the singer dropping his microphone and falling to the floor. Musicians walked over to help, and the music eventually went silent.

Some fans said they thought it was part of the act at first, but quickly realized it was no joke. Concertgoer Mikey McBryan said attendees were asked to vacate the arena.

Meat Loaf's spokesman, Jeremy Westby, said Friday that the singer's collapse was "due to severe dehydration near the end of his concert."

"He was admitted to a nearby hospital to undergo routine tests. His vital signs are stable and normal — he's responsive and recovering well," Westby said. "He extends his heartfelt thanks for everyone's support and well wishes, and is expecting a speedy and full recovery."

The 68-year-old had canceled two other concerts in recent days citing ill health.

Meat Loaf, whose real name is Marvin Lee Aday, is best known for his 1977 album "Bat Out of Hell.''
