Woman's Legs Amputated After Being Hit By Subway Train, Police Say

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A 36-year-old woman has been hit by a subway train in Manhattan after falling onto the tracks.

It happened Thursday night at the 14th Street subway station on 7th Avenue in the West Village.

Police say the woman fell off the platform and onto the tracks and was struck by a No. 3 train. Police believe the woman may have fainted, causing her to fall into the tracks.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where both her legs were amputated. Her condition wasn't immediately available.

A man was also hit by a northbound E train after falling into the tracks at the 14th Street train station on 8th Avenue Thursday night.
