Local NHL Home Openers Include Rangers Hosting Islanders
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Rangers won't have to wait long before they welcome their archrivals to Madison Square Garden next season.
In their home opener Oct. 13, the Blueshirts will face the Islanders, the Rangers announced Monday.
The Rangers will be looking for revenge against the Isles, who won all four meetings against their crosstown rivals last season. The Blueshirts reached the playoffs in 2015-16 but were eliminated in the first round by the eventual Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Islanders, who reached the second round of the playoffs last season for the first time in 23 years, will play their home opener at the Barclays Center on Oct. 16 against the Anaheim Ducks.
The Ducks will also be the Devils' opponent in their home debut, which is Oct. 18 at the Prudential Center.
The full schedules of all 30 teams will be announced Tuesday.
