Roman Reigns Suspended For 30 Days For Violating WWE's Wellness Policy

STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- The wrestling world has been rocked after it was revealed Roman Reigns was suspended for violating WWE's wellness policy.

"WWE has suspended Joe Anoa`i (Roman Reigns) for 30 days effective immediately for his first violation of the company's talent wellness policy," the company said in a statement.

Reigns has been one of the company's top stars since debuting with The Shield in 2012.

Reigns, a three-time World Heavyweight Champion, lost the belt on Sunday at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view to Seth Rollins, who subsequently lost to Dean Ambrose.

He has also main-evented the past two WrestleManias.

Reigns took to Twitter to apologize for his suspension.

"I apologize to my family, friends and fans for my mistake in violating WWE's wellness policy. No excuses. I own it," Reigns tweeted.

A triple-threat match was set up on Monday Night Raw for the July 24 Battleground pay-per-view next month between Ambrose, Reigns and Rollins for the title. Reigns' suspension will be over by then but it is not known if the company will still have him take part in the match.
