Francesa: Yankees 'Not Going To Be Buyers This Year'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mike Francesa doesn't believe the New York Yankees are going to be buyers at the trade deadline.

"We've watched this as they've played 74 games and played .500 baseball and the Yankees are, so far this season, the epitome of a .500 team," Francesa said during Monday's show open. "Some days they look good, some days they look awful. I mean, that's who they are."

Francesa said the Yanks have assets in Carlos Beltran, Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller to begin building for the future.

"The Yankees were not buyers last year, they're not going to be buyers this year. They're not going to look to ass to this team. They're not going to give up prospects to bring people in on the short term for this team. They're not going to do that. They don't believe in this team, why would you? You believe in this team?" Francesa said.

He continued, "You can stay status quo and try to take this team to the playoffs or you can look at the division and say we aren't as good as the Orioles, we aren't as good as the Red Sox, we aren't as good as the Blue Jays, and then add some people, add some players, try to add some people for the future and realize that the future becomes now."

The Yankees are 37-37 heading into Monday night's game against the red-hot Texas Rangers.

Francesa also talked about Mets series against the Washington Nationals. Click on the audio player for more.
