Police: 2 Teens Viciously Beaten Outside Brooklyn Mosque

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- Two teenagers were violently beaten outside a Brooklyn mosque early Sunday morning, police said.

Police said a 16-year-old and 17-year-old were standing outside a car on 53rd Street near Third Avenue when they started to make comments about a female inside the vehicle. The female's boyfriend reportedly heard the comments and got out of the car and beat them.

One of the teens was treated and released, while the other remains hospitalized at Lutheran Medical Center with injuries to his head.

The suspect has been identified, but police are still looking for him. No charges have been filed at this time.

Police are not classifying the incident as a hate crime, though the group Muslims Giving Back posted to social media calling it "absolutely a hate crime" and calling for action.
