Lin-Manuel Miranda Takes Final Bow As 'Hamilton' Lead

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- 'Hamilton' star and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda took his final bow as lead in the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical on Saturday night.

Miranda announced he would be leaving the role of Alexander Hamilton to work on other projects, CBS2's Steve Langford reported.

His longtime understudy Javier Munoz will take over the role.

Saturday was also the final performance for two other principle cast members -- Leslie Odom Junior, who won a Tony for his role as Aaron Burr, and Phillipa Soo, who portrays Eliza Schuyler.

Tony Award-nominee Brandon Victor Dixon will replace Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr and Lexi Lawson will take over from Soo.

Some fans shelled out a pretty penny just to see the original cast, with tickets skyrocketing into the thousands after Miranda's announcement, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported.

Two front row seats sold for $20,000 each on StubHub the night before.

'Hamilton' won 11 Tony Awards in 2016, including the title of 'Best Musical.'

Miranda has lined up plenty of work after he leaves. He has a lead role opposite Emily Blunt in a film sequel of "Mary Poppins" and will help turn his musical "In the Heights" into a movie.
