New Coalition Formed To Support LIRR Third Track Plan
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- Some people say the Long Island Rail Road third track project is going to create a mess with noise, environmental and cost concerns.
However, a group has been formed that supports the project, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.
There's been a lot of back and forth about the controversial third track project, but a new coalition called The Right Track for Long Island has been formed and they are rallying behind the plan.
Kevin Law is part of the coalition and President of the Long Island Association.
"In addition of the temporary construction jobs it'll create, it's going to allow for a much more efficient Long Island Railroad system by eliminating delays caused by the lack of a third track. It will allow for a reverse commutation to allow Long island businesses to tap into a New York City labor pool," he said.
The $1.5 billion project has been criticized by some residents who said existing trains are not even filled to capacity. They're also worried about the environment, including chemicals and dust from the project polluting air.
