Hofstra University To Host First Presidential Debate In September
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Hofstra University will host the first presidential debate at their Long Island campus on Sept. 26, according to the Commission on Presidential Debates.
The Tuesday announcement comes after Wright University, located in Dayton, Ohio, announced they would be withdrawing from the event, citing rising security costs to upwards of $8 million, the Dayton Daily News reports.
The Commission says Hofstra agreed to serve as an alternate for the debate back in September 2015.
The university previously hosted a 2012 Town Hall debate between President Barack Obama and then-Republican candidate Mitt Romney.
Hofstra University served very successfully as a presidential debate site in 2012," the Commission of Presidential Debates said in a statement Tuesday. "The Commission looks forward to working with Hofstra once again."
