Police: Burglar On Crutches Has Been Striking On West Side

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police Friday night were in search of a suspected burglar on crutches targeting Manhattan's West Side.

The investigation began after a string of break-ins.

An image from a surveillance camera showed the man police are looking for. He appears to be on crutches in the image, and was also wearing a medical boot on his foot.

Police said they believe the man may have broken into a number of apartments in a building on West 56th Street.

The suspect struck three times in apartments on three different floors Tuesday, police said. He took a Microsoft Surface Pro 4, a Macbook pro, a gold bracelet, earrings and a diamond necklace, police said.

The building has no doorman. People who live in the building said the lack of security can make it easy for intruders to get in.

Anyone with information was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS or (888) 57-PISTA for Spanish. log onto the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
