Police: Suspect Robs Off-Duty NYPD Cop In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for a suspect who they said robbed an off-duty NYPD officer in the Bronx.

It happened just before 7 p.m. Wednesday on Clinton Avenue near Crotona Park.

Police said a man walked to up the 53-year-old off-duty cop from behind and grabbed some necklaces the officer was wearing, removing one of them. There was a struggle and the officer fired one shot from his service weapon, police said.

The suspect was not hit and ran off, police said. The officer was taken to the hospital where he was treated for abrasions to his neck and a minor injury to his hand.

Police said the suspect was seen on surveillance video before the incident. They describe him as a black man in his mid-20s, about 6-feet-tall and 190 pounds. He was wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans and black sneakers.
