NYPD: Suspect Sought In Attempted Abduction Of 11-Year-Old Girl At Tennis Event

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are on the hunt for a man who tried to kidnap a girl in Flushing Meadows Park.

It happened around 3:45 p.m. Saturday as the girl was watching practice sessions on one of the courts with other family members.

At the time, the park was filled with children, as the U.S. Tennis Association hosted an "Arthur Ashe Kids Day" event for young tennis fans to enjoy ahead of the U.S. Open, CBS2's Magdalena Doris reported.

Police say the suspect is wanted for approaching an 11-year-old girl watching a tennis match with her family, pulling her by the waist and threatening her.

The girl pulled her arm free and kicked the man, police said. He then fled in an unknown direction.

Police say the girl was not harmed in the incident.

Police said Sunday evening the person depicted in the photograph has been ruled out as a suspect.

Police describe the suspect as being between the ages of 25 and 35, about 200 pounds between 5'8″ and 5'11" tall. He was wearing a red shirt with stripes, khaki shorts, sunglasses and has a tattoo with words on his right wrist.
