Endwell Team Celebrates Little League World Series Win, Snaps 5-Year Drought For U.S.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A little league baseball team from New York is celebrating a world championship for the first time in over 50 years.

As CBS2's Otis Livingston explained, the kids from Endwell refused to lose. They now have the best Little League team in the world -- beating South Korea 2-1 on Sunday, to snap a 5 year drought for the U.S.

The last time a New York team won the series was in 1964.

This win left family members at a loss for words.

"It was unbelievable, because we went from Maine-Endwell to New York to Mid Atlantic to the world. And I don't even, I'm speechless," Erin Fellows said.

"We come here every year just watching this because it's like a 2 hour drive. Now, to be a part of it, and become the world champs of everything. To go undefeated the entire season, it's hard to come by. This is once in a  lifetime. Once in five lifetimes. It was amazing to watch," Christian Abbadessa said.

The team received a hero's welcome when they returned to Endwell -- near Binghampton, on Monday. They were saluted by faithful fans in a parade through town and back on the field where their run began.

"As a local, this is what you dream of. And to be a family member of it. It's like they've done the impossible, complete the 24-0 whole season without losing, and won the Little League World Series," Matt Raleigh said.

The team was not only the toast of the town, but the nation. They received congratulations from celebrities, politicians, and the President -- all while living by the mantra "Be Legendary."

Now, they represent their town as Little League World Series champs.
