Distressed Sneakers With Holes, Stains Fetching Hundreds

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Sneakers with holes and stains could fetch hundreds of dollars.

CBS2's Emily Smith reported that distressed sneakers have become a hot ticket.

A pair of Golden Goose sneakers mean to look old, complete with duct tape, distressed material, and the appearance of dirt on it are going for $600.

And Golden Goose isn't alone. Converse now produces a distressed sneaker for $310 as the original Converse goes for $55.

Hollywood Life's Katrina Mitzeliotis said it's an oddball trend.

"Fashion seems more attainable than ever before, so to see a pair so beat up being sold for $585 is quite shocking,"

Mitzeliotis added that the smart way to be part of this new trend is to have distressed shoes the old-fashioned way from wear and tear.

"You can easily beat up your own pair in your closet," she said. "There is no need to splurge on these sneakers."

Depending on the brand, distressed shoes can cost more than $1,000.
