ALPINE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — Several children were being escorted to safety late Monday on a disabled sailboat on the Hudson River late Monday afternoon.
The boat, named Clearwater, experienced an engine failure and became disabled on the Hudson near the Alpine Tower on the New Jersey side, Joe Biermann reported from Chopper 2.
The boat operator requested emergency assistance, and harbor unit boats from Westchester County and Palisades Interstate Parkway police pulled up aside the disabled sailboat to escort it to shore.
A total of 35 passengers were on board — most of them children, officials told 1010 WINS. All were wearing life vests.
A group of children in life jackets were seen aboard the boat, while an adult played a guitar for them.
The passengers were returned to the dock in Yonkers.
