Cops Probe Possible Hate Crime As Woman In Muslim Garb Is Set On Fire In Midtown
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was set on fire in Midtown on Saturday night, and police are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.
As 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported, the visitor from Scotland was doing some window shopping on 5th Ave when she felt something warm on her arm.
She looked down to find her blouse on fire.
The woman -- who was wearing traditional Muslim clothing -- swatted the fire out and wasn't hurt.
She told police that she noticed a man walking away down 54th Street, with a lighter in his hand.
The woman told police that she didn't know the man and that they had not exchanged words.
