Dramatic Video Shows Police Rescuing Man From Macombs Dam Bridge
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police rescued a man who was poised to jump from the Macombs Dam Bridge over the Harlem River Wednesday.
The NYPD Emergency Service Unit was notified at 9:26 a.m. that a man was about to jump from the bridge, which connects Harlem at 155th Street with the Bronx.
Police immediately deployed an airbag on the roadway below as the man climbed to the top of the bridge and stood at the edge of its north side, the NYPD said.
After two hours, NYPD Emergency Service Unit Sgt. Matthew Zucker, detectives Claudio Sanchez and Vincent Caputo, and officers Daniel MacSweeney, Kirk Baker and Aramis Ramos secured the man and lowered him safely onto the airbag, police said.
The man was taken to Harlem Hospital Center for evaluation, and his condition was reported to be stable.
