United Airlines Flight From Newark Diverted To Denver Over Suspicious Item
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A United Airlines flight from Newark to San Diego was diverted to Denver after a passenger reported seeing a suspicious device on board.
Flight 1243 landed safely Wednesday evening at Denver International Airport and passengers were taken off the plane while it was searched for 2 1/2 hours, CBS Denver reported.
Passengers were rescreened and the flight continued on to San Diego after police and the FBI investigated the incident.
On Thursday morning, access to DIA was closed off after a police bomb squad checked and cleared another suspicious package reported at the airport.
A ramp for dropping off departing passengers was closed and traffic was diverted from the west side of the airport to the east side for several hours.
Ticket counters for American Airlines and Alaska Airlines were closed with no bag check-in while police investigated. The ticket counters later reopened.
Airport spokesman Heath Montgomery said some passengers were disrupted while part of the airport was sealed off, but alternate arrangements were made to help passengers make their flights.
