Thief Steals Barrel Of Gold Flakes Worth $1 Million From Armored Truck
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A five-gallon drum of gold flakes was stolen off the back of an armored truck in Midtown, police told CBS2.
The barrel was filled with more than $1 million worth of gold flakes.
The theft took place at West 48th Street near Fifth Avenue Thursday afternoon, police said.
Surveillance video cameras captured a suspect lifting the drum and taking off down 48th Street, according to police.
The barrel was part of a larger shipment headed to a company in Canada, police said.
The rest of the shipment, which included additional drums of gold flakes and pails of silver, were not touched.
