Knicks Waive 5 Players, Reduce Roster To Limit Of 15

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The New York Knicks waived forwards Lou Amundson and Cleanthony Early and injured guard Chasson Randle on Friday, trimming their roster to 15 players.

Guard J.P. Tokoto and forward Damien Inglis were also cut Friday as the Knicks got down to the roster limit.

Amundson and Early played for the Knicks the past two seasons. Randle might have had a shot to make the team this season if not for a broken orbital bone around his left eye after three preseason games.

The release of Amundson is somewhat surprising because his $1 million salary is guaranteed.

The moves mean that undrafted free agents Ron Baker and Marshall Plumlee and forward Maurice Ndour made the team.

Baker, a shooting guard who played at Wichita State, averaged 15.8 minutes in six preseason games, averaging 5.8 points.

Plumlee, a center and former star at Duke, averaged 12.7 minutes in four games, averaging 5.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 0.8 blocks.

Ndour, a 24-year-old from Senegal, averaged 14.9 minutes, 4.3 points and 2.5 rebounds in all six preseason games.

The Knicks open the regular season on the road Tuesday against the defending world champion Cleveland Cavaliers.
