Newark Police Officer Struck By Pickup Truck In Hit-And-Run, Authorities Say

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A Newark Police officer was hit by a pickup truck early Sunday morning, authorities say.

According to police, the 46-year-old officer was hit by a white pickup truck while getting items from his personal vehicle, a 2013 Ford F-150, outside a police precinct on Market and Read streets at around 7:51 a.m.

Authorities say the officer, who has not been identified, was thrown towards his vehicle following the crash.

The white pickup truck then sped eastbound on Market Street after stopping briefly at the scene, police said. According to authorities, the officer ordered the driver to pull over, 1010 WINS Roger Stern reported.

The officer, who has been a part of the Newark Police Department for 15 years, was taken to University Hospital in stable condition.

No arrests have been made.
