LAPD: Suspect Arrested After Trump's Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star Destroyed

LOS ANGELES (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Los Angeles police have arrested a man suspected of using a sledgehammer to destroy Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Officer Andrew Chambers says Jamie Otis was arrested early Thursday on suspicion of felony vandalism. It wasn't immediately known if Otis has an attorney.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which maintains the popular tourist attraction, says it will take several days to repair Trump's star.

Otis, told Deadline Hollywood and other media outlets on Wednesday that he was responsible for the damage. Otis said that he originally intended to remove Trump's star and auction it off to raise funds for the 11 women accusing the presidential candidate of sexual assault. Trump has denied the allegations and said he will sue the women after the election.

CBS Los Angeles reported that Otis planned to hold a press conference at the Hollywood Walk of Fame before turning himself in. He was arrested before being able to do so.

This is not the first time Trump's star has been targeted this year. In July, protesters built a miniature "border" wall with razor wire around it. Someone also spray-painted a swastika onto the star, and one man recorded himself urinating on it, CBS LA reported.

Trump's star was dedicated in 2007 in recognition of his work on NBC's "The Apprentice.''

The star is currently under repair.
