State Assemblywoman Arrested, Accused Of Hitting Son With Broomstick

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A New York state assemblywoman was facing charges Sunday on allegations that she hit her 12-year-old son with a broomstick.

Assemblywoman Diana Richardson (D-Brooklyn) represents the 43rd Assembly District, which includes Crown Heights, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Wingate, and East Flatbush.

She was arrested after her son walked into a police station with an arm injury. He reported that he and his mother were quarreling about his report card.

Police said Richardson admitted hitting him, but claimed her son pushed her.
