Man Commandeers MTA Bus On Staten Island, Crashes Into 3 Parked Cars, Police Say
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn man faces multiple charges after he stole an MTA bus on Staten Island and crashed it, police said.
Officers were flagged down by an MTA bus driver at Jewett and Castleton avenues Friday around 5:30 p.m.
He said he was inspecting the bus when a man boarded and indicated he had a firearm, police said. The man allegedly demanded to take over the vehicle.
Police said the driver complied, but while they were en route to the bus depot, the suspect kicked him off the bus.
The suspect was driving east at Castleton and Broadway when he crashed into three unoccupied parked cars and a light pole, police said. No one was hurt.
Mario Casanova, 33, of Brooklyn, was arrested without incident and charged with robbery, grand larceny auto, unlawful imprisonment, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.
