Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Named People Magazine's 'Sexiest Man Alive'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Former WWE champ Dwayne "The Rock'' Johnson can add People's "Sexiest Man Alive'' title to his list of accomplishments.

The wrestler-turned-actor was crowned this year's winner Tuesday morning. The 44-year-old tells the magazine that the honor means he has "pretty much reached the pinnacle.''

"Thank U @People & all the fans," Johnson wrote on Twitter. "Grateful for the luv!"

The fact that Johnson won the coveted award shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, according to Katrina Mitzeliotis of Hollywoodlife.com.

"I think it's a great opportunity to highlight a man who's having an amazing year in Hollywood and that's what we are seeing here," said Mitzeliotis. "He's one of the hardest working men in the business," she added.

CBS2's Emily Smith spoke with some New Yorkers who expressed mixed reactions to the magazine's choice.

"I think Patrick Dempsey is probably more attractive," said one woman.

"He's so good looking, I don't know. His build, his physique, everything," said another.

A video posted to Johnson's Instagram page on Halloween shows the star doting on his infant daughter while dressed as Pikachu. Some say this may have had a role in the magazine's choice. "I think they look for a great all around man," added Mitzeliotis.

Last year's winner was British soccer standout David Beckham. Other recent winners include Chris Hemsworth, Adam Levine and Channing Tatum.

Johnson has lent his voice to a character in the animated Disney film "Moana,'' which hits theaters next week.

As CBS2's Emily Smith reported, fans can get their hands on the special issue of People Magazine when it hits newsstands this Friday.
