Weight Watchers Voluntarily Recalls Frozen Dessert Over Listeria Concerns

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Weight Watchers has voluntarily recalled one of its frozen desserts over fears it could be contaminated with listeria.

The recall impacts approximately 100,000 cases of the Smart Ones Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Sundae desserts, which were distributed to retailers across the U.S.

The recall comes after Aspen Hills, the supplier of the cookie dough pieces used in the product, received positive test results for listeria, the company said. So far no illnesses have been reported.

Listeria can cause serious and even deadly infections. It primarily affects the elderly, pregnant women, newborns and people with weak immune systems.

"We deeply regret this situation and apologize to any consumers we have disappointed," Weight Watchers said.

Customers should not eat the product. It can be returned at the place of purchase for an exchange or full refund.
