CBS2 Exclusive: Man Who Collapsed Onto Subway Tracks Meets One Of His Rescuers
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man who collapsed onto subway tracks earlier this week has been reunited with one of the good Samaritans who helped save his life.
In a hospital room on the Upper East Side, Gary Tonge came face to face with Michel Mroue, one of the men who came to his rescue when he fell after taking medication for an allergic reaction, CBS2's Jessica Layton reported.
"All I remember is taking the Benadryl, and that's it. After that I passed out," Tonge said.
Mroue was on the platform, heading downtown after a business meeting.
"I see Gary between the train tracks, just crumbled and bleeding," he said.
Without thinking twice, Mroue and two others jumped down to help.
"We just pulled the body up while the train was coming," he said. "Thank god somebody was able to stop it."
Two days later, Tonge said he's "very lucky, very very lucky."
"It's a great feeling to make sure that he's doing fine," Mroue said.
"I tell him, 'thank you,' and he's a blessing," Tonge said.
Mroue told CBS2 this was the second time in just two months that he helped someone who had fallen onto the subway tracks.
