CityViews: Chef Marcus Samuelsson

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Sharon Barnes-Waters sits down with culinary genius chef and restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson.

Samuelsson joined Barnes-Waters in the Adorama Live Theatre this week to talk about his new book, "The Red Rooster Cookbook: The Story of Food and Hustle in Harlem."

The pages are loaded with personal dishes woven into the story of Harlem. "When I created the bar, I wanted it to match the energy that you had on Lenox Ave, like the Apollo, the Studio Museum, and all these cultural icons" Samuelsson said.

While he was still in the process of establishing the Red Rooster restaurant, people would yell out advice as he walked down the street. "They were really direct about what they wanted and how they wanted it," Samuelsson said. But he didn't mind it then and doesn't mind it now. "The day they stop talking is when you're done for," Samuelsson said.

The Red Rooster Cookbook is in bookstores now and can also be purchased online.
