Man Charged In Death Of Man Found Hog-Tied Inside LI Hotel Room

HICKSVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man is being held without bail in the beating death of another man who was found hog-tied on the floor of a Long Island hotel room.

Vincent Dalton was arrested Tuesday on second-degree murder charges in the death of 37-year-old Erik O'Connell.

O'Connell's body was found by at the Econo Lodge in Hicksville last Saturday by an employee who went to clean the room, police said.

A felony complaint said O'Connell, of East Meadow, died of blunt force trauma.


According to Nassau County Police Detective John Azzata, local businesses and surveillance cameras led authorities to Dalton.

In a press conference Wednesday, Azzata said the suspect has 14 prior arrests, eight of which are for violent felonies.

Police said the men had known each other less than 24 hours and had been drinking together but didn't elaborate. At this time they have not established a motive for the killing.

Dalton's court-appointed attorney said at Wednesday's arraignment his 51-year-old client is homeless and told police he was not taking his psychiatric medication.
