Jersey City Man Who Recently Moved To Oakland Among The Missing After Warehouse Fire

JERSEY CITY, N.J, (CBSNewYork) -- Following a fatal warehouse fire in Oakland, California, the family and friends of a New Jersey man fear for his safety.

Alex Ghassan recently moved from Jersey City to Oakland.

He posted a video on Instagram that appears to have been taken at a party inside the warehouse before the fire broke out Friday night.

He captioned the post, "Oakland reminds me of Jersey City so much sometimes."

His friends here in the Tri-State area said they are having a hard time coping with the uncertainty.

"I don't want to think that he is gone," friend Richardine Bartee told CBS2's Christine Sloan. "I am just wishing and hoping he will return to his family and friends and the artist community he loves so much."

"He loved going out, you would always see him at one of these events," another of his friends told 1010 WINS's Roger Stern.

Ghassan is an accomplished producer, director and cinematographer.

His friends said their concerns extended to his family, including his twin daughters.

"He loves his daughters, just as any dad should. He went to the West Coast to provide as a father for his family," Bartee said.

Ghassan's mother and grandmother live in Orange, New Jersey but asked for privacy during this difficult time.
