Man Arrested In Wrong-Way Crash On Long Island That Left 3 Injured
SHIRLEY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Three people were injured after a wrong-way driver under the influence of drugs crashed into three vehicles on Long Island on Monday evening, police said.
According to police, Kevin Demartino, 42, of Shirley, was driving a 2009 Toyota northbound in the southbound lane of the William Floyd Parkway near Flintlock Drive at around 6:30 p.m. when he crashed into a 2004 Ford, a 2012 Volkswagen and a 2013 Ford traveling southbound in the same lane.
Drivers Margaret Wimett, 51, Joyce Voellm, 63, and Norberto Garcia, 36, were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Demartino was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Drugs in the 1st Degree, police said.
He was taken to Stony Brook Hospital for treatment following the crash and is expected to be arraigned.
