Reports: Yankees Pitching Prospect Fatally Shot In Venezuela
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Alexander Figueredo, a 20-year-old pitching prospect in the Yankees' system, was shot dead in his native Venezuela last month, according to multiple reports.
Figueredo was shot multiple times while attending a party in Guacara on Nov. 27, the New York Post reported. The Yankees confirmed the killing to the New York Daily News.
The left-hander missed all of last season while on the suspended/restricted list. It was not clear why he was suspended.
Figueredo was not considered a top prospect in the Yankees' farm system. Pitching for one of the Yankees' affiliates in the Dominican Summer League in 2015, he appeared in 12 games, starting 11, and posted a 1.89 ERA with 52 strikeouts and 22 walks.
