Lawmakers Propose Alternative To Speed Cameras In NYC School Zones

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A group of state lawmakers have come up with with they call an alternative to speed cameras placed near New York City schools.

State Senate Republicans say their bill would require the city's Department of Transportation to install stop signs or red lights at every intersection where there's a school.

The city's current speed camera program will expire next month unless the legislature reconvenes for a special session and approves a measure extending the program.
