You're sure to find the perfect way to celebrate Halloween in the New York City area, whether you're looking for an after-hours haunted house to make your blood curdle or a spooky walk-through for you and the kids.

This one's not for the kids. The well-known NYC Halloween destination is not recommended for children under the age of 14. But if you're a fear-loving (or fearless) adult, you might want to give Blood Manor a try starting Oct. 1. It can be booked for student nights and birthday celebrations.

Boo At The Bronx Zoo

A New York City tradition is back this October. Boo at the Bronx Zoo features all kinds of Halloween-themed activities, including a haunted hayride. You can take the family every weekend in October. The Zoo will also feature activities like magic shows, live music and a 3-D Halloween-themed Safari.

The famous wax figure museum turns scary when the sun goes down. Madame Tussaud's After Dark event features a 4-D experience, as you make your way though the attraction filled with ghostly live actors and life-like creepy creatures. The event lasts for eight nights. Tickets start at $22, group packages are available.

You can bring the kids to this one beginning in October - but get there before 6 p.m. Kids activities and a family-friendly haunted house are offered during the day, but after-hours, this Staten Island tradition turns terrifying.

Nightmare: Superstitions

Described by the creators as a "classic, walk-through haunted house," this one is built to make you scream. No one under 12 is admitted without a parent, and no one under 7 is allowed in at all. If you're up for a good scare, you can pick up a ticket in advance for $30 ($35 at the door).
